Detention and Unjust Proceedings

Vafaei Sani was detained in March 2020. The accusations against him included “spreading corruption on Earth through arson and damage of government belongings”. His ruling has been overturned twice but on 4 October it was confirmed on the latest review. His court case was denounced as “grossly unfair” by advocates and groups.

Call to UN

The appeal to prevent the boxer's death sentence comes after a previous appeal to the UN high commissioner for freedoms, backed by in excess of a hundred human rights experts and entities, demanding intervention to avert the sports figure's death.
